Living Maroc
All best 100% wool handmade rugs from Maroc
Why
Living Maroc, actually Lieke van Dijk and her daughter Lune, just love almost all what is made by the Berber woman in Maroc. Their love for the strong craftmenship and especially the handmade Maroccan rugs from the cooperative feminin with their unique designs made them so gready that they decided to buy all they love the most and started to sell it to their friends (with often specific request) and design their own rugs in favourite designs and colors.
The moment Living Maroc got more and more interest from other design lovers from all over the world one of their first clients and great friend Wietske, made this site.
Welcome!
Their backstory is beautiful and so inspiring too.
Dutch powerhouse Lieke and her family lived in Morocco (Tagahzout) for almost three years to enjoy the ocean together as a family, going on adventures while working as digital nomads. One day, she took her children to a women’s cooperatives in Morocco to show her children (and herself) that they are blessed: financially, but above all in terms of the position of women. This is where Lieke fell in love: first with the artisan rugs and immediately afterwards also with the talented women who make them. Living Maroc, actually Lieke and her daughter Lune, just love almost all what is made by the Berber woman in Maroc. Their love for the strong craftsmenship and especially the handmade Moroccan rugs with their unique designs made them so greedy that they decided to start Living Maroc to be able to share this beauty and provide more work for the women.
One important reason for Lieke starting Living Maroc is to create fair employment for women in the region. This has a positive side effect: the daughters who see their mother work for a living are encouraged to do their best at school, because now they know women are able to work instead of just being at home!
